Placing objects on the roadway to reserve parking for yourself or others without the approval of the traffic officer is illegal according to the law of Maintaining Cleanliness and Orderliness of the Country BE 2535, Section 19, 48, paragraphs 3 and 57.

Anyone who violates this will be subject to a maximum fine up to 10,000 baht, which is a higher penalty than most traffic laws.

In addition, those who witness the offense can notify the officers and will receive a 50% share of the fine, or a maximum of 5,000 baht. The share will depend on an actual amount of fine.
