The Royal Thai Police and the Department of Land Transport have formed a partnership to reinforce traffic discipline. Motorists who have an overdue ticket that has not been paid will no longer be able to receive a new sticker for car tax.

The National Police Agency will inform the Department of Land Transport of unpaid traffic fines for those who have received a ticket for a traffic violation but failed to pay the fine within the legal time limit. This notification will be made during the process of requesting annual tax payment. Renewal of annual car tax payment without payment of any outstanding fines will result in the issuance of temporary evidence instead of the annual car tax payment sticker. These measures will be applicable to traffic tickets for offenses from April 1, 2023 onwards, without any retroactive effect. Driving without the required tax sign will be subject to a penalty under Section 11 of the Motor Vehicle Act, with a fine not exceeding 2,000 baht.

It is believed that these measures will improve traffic discipline and promote road safety in a sustainable manner.
